The little space in between.

Small spaces deserve a little attention. Cleaning between teeth is a separate step from brushing, and finding a comfortable tool can make it easier to fit into your day.

Find a tool that feels comfortable

String floss is one option. Floss holders, small interdental brushes and water flossers offer other ways to clean between teeth. The right choice depends on your teeth, any dental work and what you can use comfortably. Ask your dentist or hygienist to help you choose.

Keep the movement gentle

With string floss, guide it carefully between the teeth. Curve it around the side of one tooth in a C shape and move it along the surface; then clean the neighbouring tooth. Avoid snapping it down onto your gums. If you use a different tool, follow its directions and the technique your dental professional shows you.

Pick a time you can keep

You can clean between teeth before or after brushing. The more useful question is when you have a moment to do it thoroughly. Morning, evening or another convenient time can work. Aim to make it a daily habit.

A little step, made easier

Choose your tool. Use it gently. Give it a regular place in your routine.

If cleaning between your teeth remains painful, ask a dental professional to check your technique and tool choice.
